I was involved for a short while as a composer on board this project. I spent approximately 6 months researching Jewish music that had been written in the German concentration camps during WWII, and writing a piece of music for performance as part of that project. The resulting piece, Out of the Depths, for Klezmer ensemble, was premiered at The Clothworker’s Hall in Leeds University, and performed a second time at the Imperial War Museum North (Manchester). It quoted several different melodies from the pieces that I had studied, and interspersed these with more contemporary sections.
